Project TitleAnalyzing Readmissions of Cancer Patients: A Cost and Geographical Analysis
SummaryThe use of excess thirty-day readmission rates as an indicator of poor hospital service quality has been widely embraced, but it is unclear if patients' characteristics play important roles in readmissions. Our analysis will reveal the effects of patients' characteristics on health outcomes by leveraging a large-scale cancer patient dataset. This study will enhance our understanding of factors that can influence readmissions and help healthcare programs better define or measure readmission activity that can bring large impacts on hospitals and patients.
Job DescriptionStudent(s) will analyze data, present results, and write down a conference/journal paper as a deliverable if possible.
Computational ResourcesWe need to use XSEDE supercomputers to run experiments on large datasets.
Contribution to CommunityParallel computing on the large-scale dataset. A big contribution to human health.
