Introduction to Computational Thinking Across the Curriculum: 2) Systems Modeling
Topical — 2021
This workshop will focus on inquiry-based learning enhanced by computational thinking with content and practice to assist teachers and faculty to incorporate modeling at all levels from mobile device to desktop to petascale supercomputing and beyond. The activities will expose participants to the basics of computational thinking, modeling, and data analysis. We desire to have participants from a broad range of disciplines, including, but not limited to, computer science, mathematics, and the physical and life sciences. Materials for the workshop are drawn from the National Science Digital Library (nsdl.oercommons.org), in particular resources from XSEDE as well as Shodor's extensive Interactivate collection of lessons, discussions, activities, and supporting materials.
This will be a hands-on, interactive workshop, and a $100 stipend will be available for participants who teach courses at U.S. institutions. Enrollment in the workshop will be limited, and we require registration both here on the NCSI website as well as on the XSEDE User Portal, so that both projects can track enrollment and administer surveys. Receiving the stipend requires attending the entirety of both days of the workshop, completing all workshop activities, and completing all pre-, daily, and post-workshop surveys.
