With funding provided by the
XSEDE program, and with additional funds from NCSI,
there is no fee to attend any NCSI workshop this year.
Computational Chemistry for Chemistry Educators
This workshop focuses on how computer technology can be used to enhance and improve the educational experience of students. It will emphasize hands-on molecular modeling and other web-based and commercial software important for incorporating computational chemistry into the undergraduate curriculum. No previous experience with molecular modeling is required. The workshop will provide online, hands-on access to state-of-the-art computational chemistry tools, and will also guide participants to sites where many other useful tools may be downloaded for free. Online presentations and discussion will be conducted via Zoom. Participants will also have access to all course materials via a dedicated Moodle site for the workshop. Upon successful completion of the workshop and presentation of solid ideas on how computation will be used in a future course, participants will be eligible to receive a $500 stipend.

Introduction to Computational Thinking Across the Curriculum: 1) Modeling with Spreadsheets and Web Resources
This workshop will focus on inquiry-based learning enhanced by computational thinking with content and practice to assist teachers and faculty to incorporate modeling at all levels from mobile device to desktop to petascale supercomputing and beyond. The activities will expose participants to the basics of computational thinking, modeling, and data analysis. We desire to have participants from a broad range of disciplines, including, but not limited to, computer science, mathematics, and the physical and life sciences. Materials for the workshop are drawn from the National Science Digital Library (nsdl.oercommons.org), in particular resources from XSEDE as well as Shodor's extensive Interactivate collection of lessons, discussions, activities, and supporting materials.
This will be a hands-on, interactive workshop, and a $100 stipend will be available for participants who teach courses at U.S. institutions. Enrollment in the workshop will be limited, and we require registration both here on the NCSI website as well as on the XSEDE User Portal, so that both projects can track enrollment and administer surveys. Receiving the stipend requires attending the entirety of both days of the workshop, completing all workshop activities, and completing all pre-, daily, and post-workshop surveys.
